This is a soundtrack album of songs made under the Yucore moniker, for the short film, Terratoma, written and directed by Liadan Roche. Yucore is a musical project by Roche and I, and while these songs are made specifically for the film, we released it as a standalone work as well, feeling the music could stand on its own. The songs were created over the course of a month, in which I wrote and recorded all the instrumentals. All but two songs feature myself on guitar, keyboard, and vocals, as well as drum sequencing. The other two songs, both being experimental noise passages, were also created by me, using bird song and an extensive library of effects. I produced the entire album, as well as mixed and mastered it.
These two songs were also created by Roche and I, under the Yucore moniker. The first is an experimental electronic dance song, featuring distorted synthesizers, saxophone, and fast-paced drum-sequencing. The second is a farcical pop song, featuring sarcastic lyrics, acoustic guitar, and more distorted synthesizers. Both songs were written/recorded by Roche and I, and feature Roche on vocals/keyboards and myself on vocals/guitar/bass/keyboards/saxophone/drum sequencing/production/mixing and mastering.
This is a piece I made during my second semester in my MPhil in Music and Media Technology. It is an Acousmatic piece, made during the COVID-19 Lockdown, consisting solely of sounds from the human voice. I found volunteers online from all over the world, sent out a list of vocal instructions that could be interpreted in a variety of ways, and then asked for them to send me their audio over email. I accumulated material from 26 vocalists. Over the course of a few days, I went through all of the audio sent to me, organised it into different groups, and constructed this piece, using very minimal effects and processing.
This is another piece I made during my second semester in my MPhil in Music and Media Technology. It is a re-imagining / reinterpretation of a song from the 1966 album 'Pet Sounds' by The Beach Boys. The piece starts as a traditional cover, with all of the original instruments, rhythms and melodies being recreated as closely as possible, but then starts to travel in a new direction, firstly with the building of previous ideas, morphing into new sounds and textures, then a complete change of style and structure altogether. The piece was made during the COVID-19 Lockdown, meaning absolutely everything was done by myself, at home, over the course of a few days.
